We leave in about an hour for the airport. So the Falls have been amazing. I´m going to let everyone tell you about them in person but We took tonnes of pictures. Alot. It´s an amazing time here but everyone is ready to go home I think. Erin is sick so pray that she would recover for the plane ride. She´s sleeping right now so that´s good. This morning the girls were both sick. Well they threw up. Lynne was fine after so it may have been the pinapple drink they had. Anyways just thought you all should know we´re having an amazing time here but can´t wait to see you all. Not the cold though. That we´re not looking forward to. I hope it goes away. See you all in a few days!

Dane

Potentially last blog

Alright a feeling of dread and excitment is filling us in Brazil. We want to go home but we really don't want to say goodbye here. We have fallen in love with the people and country of Brazil. And Kenny and I have fallen in love with surfing but that's kind of an aside. Tommorrow we leave at 8 am for Falls Igasu.

Last night after I finished the blog the girls had a sleep over! They stayed at Edonia's and Amanda's two local girls our age who live really close. They enjoyed the night. The next day us boys were awoken at what the clock said to be six am to the sounds of construction. They are adding onto our builing and it was quiet noisy. At 8:13 when the alarm was set to go off or so Alex comes and wakes us up telling us its 9. The clock had changed to be much earlier so by the time we got up to the house it was 10 or so in the morning :S woops. After that we had breakfast and just hung around the house until lunch. After lunch we all folded tracks. lots of tracks. Since there were so many of us though it went by rather quickly. After that we all walked to the supermarcado again. This time we went to one further away and we got shown the local school along the way. Then we headed back and are chilling here now and are going to get hotdogs for supper again. I think I shall likely get that delicious giant burger again. :) Ciao all. If I don't blog again see you all in Canada

Oh Today. And Yesterday

Ok so yesterday was filled with car filled adventure. We went into Curitiba because we all want some souveniery things so while running some errands we got to go shopping. We also treated the Abel's to lunch at a buffet restraunt that had some of the best tasting meat I've ever tasted. It was so good. So we spent most of the day in Curitiba shopping and running errands and I'm not telling you what anyone bought so there :) anyhow after we got back to the farm the five of us decided to walk to town to check out the supermarcado because we couldnt find everything we wanted for the right price. Well shopping where locals shop pays off. It was quiet comical they have 1 liter bottles of coke in glass and kenny clayton and I decided we wanted one. So we go to the till and they tell us something about we needed a bottle or something we weren't sure so we decided to just get normal bottles. meanwhile the store staff called up pastor paul to translate us gringos. It was funny. turns out you need to have a bottle or its an extra real to get one. after that we came back and turns out we all missed supper and had to leave for church. i thought it was weird because it was the first time we would have ever eaten supper before church. So we got back and their cousins Jonathan and Melissa had arrived from Phoenix and eaten a whole bunch of the soup so we didn't have crazy amout of food but it was enough. after that everyone went to bed while I watched Melissa Jonny and Alex play Risk. It was good times

Today Was a day just like any other. except for that we got to go to a wicker basket makers house! Unfourtunatly we all forgot camera's so there's no pictures but it was pretty cool. The guy made a car out of wicker. The original is 27 years old and he made it for his wife. it was super cool I would have offered to buy one but it would have gotten broken on the way home for sure.

After that it was time for work from us so we went down and they have a horse ring that's huge and was partially filled with dead plants. So our job was to move said plants because a group wanted to have campfire there later that evening. The worms here are terrifying. They writhe the second they are not buried and it is one of the more frightening things I've see in Brazil. After killing some rather large spiders and shovelling through and ant pile with a pitch fork it looks alot nicer.

We decided after all that work that it was time for something recreational. And what better recreation in Brazil than to play "footbul"? So we played five on five soccer. It ended when Kenny took a ball to the face and decided he should put contacts in and then another group came and had booked the gym so we left. Kenny has a small bruise under his eyebrow but I don't think it should cause much trouble. We will have to see though.

Anyways he wasn't too banged up to be unable to saddle up the horse brownie. She was not too happy that we trapped her in the corall and then saddled and bridaled her and then let everyone who wanted to ride her. The saddle and such is a little diffrent from what Kenny is used to but he successfully managed.

And after that is now. Lynne's foot is healing nicely (from the beach) my wrist has almost entirely new skin and my finger nail just needs to grow out so it doesn't look weird. Erin slept the whole night without waking up coughing so things here are good. We're in excellent health and healing well so thank you for your prayers. Tommorrow is our last day here and then we go to Igasu falls so pray for safe travels good health and that we would stay safe in this tale end of our time here. We really love it here and I'd love to tell you all about Igasu but I think tommorrow shall likely be the last blog.

God Bless All
Dane

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://clbiteambrazil.blogspot.com/2008/01/oh-today.html' title='Oh Today. They sounded like they had an interesting time. Alright so Chariots of Fire was pretty good. After that we just relaxed most of the day and watched another movie! This one had a purpose. To fold tracks. Very serious business requiring persicion and technique envied by many. So we threw on Sergant Bilko to pass the time while we did it. The girls got back later that night and we really did not do much else.

Sunday was very uneventful. I think everyone took a nap and Kenny and I played soccer with some of the local kids. It was English speakers against non for the first part. We won so feel free to congradulate us when we get back on our awesome victory over the Brazilians and not on my spelling. Oh Sunday we also performed two songs as it was our last Sunday in Buitas and Campo Largo as well Kenny and Erin shared their testimonies while Becky translated. Kenny Played guitar and I played bass which worked well at the first church but at the second the tuning was out so I couldn't play. It was good but we made the services very long and Clayton and I had no one translating for both of them, but that's okay.

Anyhow today we finished painting the church while the girls worked at a preschool. Lunch time we headed over to a house about a block away to eat lunch served by one of the familes in the church. It was pretty good and cool that we got to eat in a Brazillian home. After an afternoon of painting we headed back to Paul and Becky's again. Good news all. My finger is well enough for me to play guitar again! Horzah!!! My wrist could be better but I'm still not too worried about it. It's getting smaller day by day so...

It's finally cold over here. Not Canada cold but it's only like plus 15 or something. Brrrr. People are in pants :D hehe be jealous.

Kenny says we have no more social skills. We won't be able to social well when we get back. All we're good at is pretending we know what Porteguese means. It's kind of true. We figure we've been talking to about 10 people in English on any given day. So we're used to just talking with each other and not big groups. And we have to think about everything we say. This is probably a good thing but it means when we get back we're gonna have all these habits and we will likely be overwhelmed by being able to be a part of any conversation we want. It should be an experiance.

Anyways Hi from all. I hope your lives are going well. Continue to pray for us. We appreciate it.

God Bless
Dane

Side Dish: Compliments of Lynne

Hello out there!
A lot has happened in the last week and sadly soon our time here in Bateias will come to an end. This morning our team was given a chance to sing two songs and have two people give testamonies. So Kenny and Erin were chosen to talk and did wonderfully, and we sang Heart of Worship and Consecrated...Rawlings made it to Brazil.
I can't describe to all of you well enough how much I've enjoyed my time here. The last two weeks have been unforgettable and full of the wonder and glory of our Father. The contrasts one can find in this country have really stood out for me and have been one of the biggest mind boggling aspects for me. The people like to be very clean, but live in well kept chaos. One minute it's raining the next it's overwhelmingly hot. There's robins, and you'd think the mosquitos would be huge here, but are actually smaller and sometimes hard to see. There's a sense of machoism here but the people are very emotional. There are tons of vegetables to eat but mainly what's eaten is bread and rice and meat/beans. Portuegese looks kind of like spanish but sounds more like french.
I could keep on going but I think that I'll start to describe our trip to the beach and Erin and I's stay in two Brazilian houses.
Alright, no wonder people call tropical climates paradise. The smells and the sights were spectacular! I'd never swam in such warm water. I'll continue later....I know I'm random.
-Lynne

All Is Calm On The Western Front

Alright so We're all better here now. horzah! Last night the guys were asked out to eat for supper. I being sick obviously couldn't go but the guys said it was spectacular. Apparently they went to a restraunt where they had some of the best meat they've ever eaten. They had the animal there and cut off whatever cut you wanted. The Salad bar was massive, the size of four of the clbi cafeteria tables full of food. Then you would sit down and the waiters come up and down the isles with all kinds of meat and pasta. The meat is on skewers and they cut it off right in front of you. They had chicken heart, lamb, oxe, ostrich, pork, every type of beef imaginable. Clayton said he had like 5 chicken hearts. And they each had like 5 bottles of coke each. There was a Japanese section aswell that served seafood and such. There was a huge lineup waiting to get in when they left too. Rather popular. Those were mostly the words of Clayton with a few artistic liberties taken so I didn't quote mark it. They also finished second coating all of the rafters at the church. I also missed out on a chocolate cake the size of a small car tire made by Angelica and Jessica. Two Brazilian locals. So it's too bad that I was sick yesterday because I missed out on alot. I was feeling well enough by ten or so in the evening to eat some buns with peanut butter on and am fully recovered. The girls also had an adventure last night. They got to stay at some Brazilian peoples houses for the night and are satill not back. So I'll get one of them to tell you all about it when they get in. Right now it's just us boys and Alex (Paul and Becky's Nephew who has been staying with us) So we're going to watch Chariots of Fire. Ciao. Keep praying, because your prayers really do help.

God Bless
Dane

Exhaustion

The scribe again. you may have noticed that its mid afternoon in Brazil as I blog today. We that is because after I last wrote you my stomache and I had a dissagreement. So we parted ways. translation is that I'm sick and threw up last night. Bella (Abel's neice) also is sick today. It's actually an interesting story. I was in the bathroom about to swallow peptol bismal because I was feeling really poorly when I was struck with the sudden desire to empty my stomache contents. So most of it made the toilet. I am just exhasuted and if I try to get up I feel sick. So pray for improved health and that the others don't get whatever it is that I have. To firstl;y reply to your comments we're taking lots of pictures and jounalling lots too. well I am anyways Clayton's foot peeled some but looks fine for the most part now. and mom I am soaking my wounds in salt water... ALL DAY! That's right it was beach day over here. So we hopped in the car and drove the back way so we could see the beautiful jungle. It was amazing Finally after random stops and drinking sugar cane juice and walking on rocks in the river we got to the beach. It was amazing. We had a body board along and we all surfed it. it was amazing. And only kenny got burned badly. it was good. finally after a long hard day of surf and sun we spent the night at a german hotel after crossing over to an island on a ferry. the salt really stung my wrist but my finger didn't fair too poorly. anyhow then today we went on a schooner it was quiet good. We got to swim in the ocean near shore so we swam to shore. I have good news and bad news. The good news is that i managed to not hurt myself these past 2 days. the bad news is that lynne was not so lucky... She cut open her foot on a barnacle on that beach. I helped her dress it when we got back. After that Kenny and I exhausted ourselves swimming against the current back to the boat a ways. it was hard and I was exhausted after. After that and lunch we shopped for a while in sprinkling rain and then headed home just as the rain began to pore. Paul's sister was nearly run off the road by some semi's a couple of times but we made it back alive. right now we are waiting for supper in the living room. and now i'm going to join everyone else ciao

And now the rest of the story

Ok so Dane is back in black or red. sunscreen is very ineffective at these tempuratures. Don´t worry I´m not badly burned but I do wish I had a hat. Anyways in cleaning my wound the other day the gauze Kenny and I put on was stuck to my finger. It was gross and I took pictures but after much soaking and pulling and cutting I managed to pull off the gauze without hurting myself. The wrist wound may becoming infecting though. I cleaned it extremely well earlier today though and it feels and looks much better. THe burgers we had had hot dog sausage, hamburger, beef, chicken, egg, and bacon. It was delectable. I ate things until I could eat it as a burger. For those of you that don´t read comments we have Clayton´s passport in ou possesion now.
So yesterday we finished painting and staining the shed and barn horray!!! there was much rejoicing. Paul had us stain a Aframe cottage they have. All was well on the western front until silly old Clayton decided he was to good for the roof. So he broke it. That´s right Clayton fell through the roof. Don´t worry he´s okay though he hit the ceiling and it stopped his fall. We thanked God for that.
Today we washed the car and then Paul took us on a tour of the town. It was pretty cool but very hot. Amanda and Glasia came along but got very tired and hot and comendeered Lynne and I to carry them back. After that staining at the church! yay! We´re getting a little tired of paint and stain but that´s ok! after that we rinsed ourselves in the shower before heading over to the English school. Unfourtunatly church is longer than we are in the classes with the students and that brings us to now. Yep I´m in the English school blogging. I thought it mad a pretty neat story so... When we have more I´ll write more Ciao for now!

Good Morning continued...

Alright now I'm by myself. So in the evening on Sunday after church the Abel's took us and a few other people out for supper at a restaraunt just outside of Bateias. Their son Matthew was down for Christmas and helped with the camp and vbs, but left today in the afternoon to go back to school in the States, so the supper was a going away present. Kenny, Clayton and Dane downed a burger who's toppings consisted of everything on the menu (an egg, ham, burger, hotdog, tomato, cheese, and a few other toppings that I can't remember). Erin and I stuck with the cheese burger, it was delicious.
Supper time in Brazil is quite a bit different than in Canada. While we tend to eat in the early evening, the Brazilians like to eat later on at night, around 9pm. This is also a meat and potatoes country. There really isn't a lot of vegetables eaten.
After supper we read our encouragement for the day and went to bed. (oh and I watched Dane clean his war wound...the gauze was stuck to his finger...there was pain.)

Good Morning
North America

This is the first official blog of the week and the torch ha s been passed on to the next victom; AKA me, Lynne. Well what can I say yesterday was sunday. In other words sleep day. After an hour or so of portuguese church in which Lydia, Pastor Paul's sister, interpreted the service for us, we headed back to the Abel's house for some lay back time. Which turned into a huge lunch with the Abel family, only one Abel not present.

To say the least, I and most of the team our exhausted from the Camp week. It takes a lot out of a person to not only help with camp but to try understanding the language, especially when people have questions they want to ask you and you them.
So after eating lunch with the Abel's I headed down to the ARCA to take a nap...so I don't know what the rest did from 1:30pm till 4pm. Anyways to make a long story short I and Erin slept for most of the afternoon, ( I didn't sleep well the night before either because I may have watched a scary movie before going on this a trip and as such my imagination got a little out of control). So it was really good to sleep.

At around 3:30pm little people started to sneak in and out of the room that Erin and I were sleeping in, they thought it was pretty funny and continued to do so till they got the boys to get up. jsadjkfjkak;(that was Amanda). kfdjdadfj(and again)pkjkde;lf....Okay now I'll type. lksdf or not. kjsdlfaf.....alright, so all of a sudden I heard noise out on the field. Needless to say, I have been wanting to play soccer really badly and it seems as though its more of a guy's sport around here, and girls only play when it doesn't ruin the competiveness of the game. So when I heard the noise out on the field I knew it was my chance. It's amazing how good some of those kids are at soccer.

Clayton, Kenny, Dane and I played until it was time to go to the Abel's newly planted church in Campo Largo. To get the the church we hopped on to the Abel's community bus which we fill to over flowing. The service was at 7pm.

ksrkjdjf;ajljf Alright since its a little to difficult to type while being told how to type by two little girls, I'm going tofnichs finish this blog later.....

Seems Like I Was Just Here

oh wait I was. So here's the latest happs. I figured I should tell you all. When you last heard from our heroes it was raining rather hard. I of course being the intellegent being that I am decided it would be super fun to run in the rain... down the hill. So I took off and as I approached the speed of light I thought Ï'm really running way to fast for my legs to keep up. I should slow, down lets trying running at an angle to the hill instead of straight down" the second my foot hit the grass I started to slide at a very high velocity. The word of God saved me some. My Bible has a huge gash in it, as does my wrist. And I tore my ring finger in half. So I get to the bottom and start treating myself. Being the medic on the team thats my job. It's also my job to decide when I need help. So I ran and got Kenny to help patch me up. Good thing too because when I tried to fix myself up I started shaking so bad from pain I didn't have a hope. So we patched me up and I took some ibeprofen. For those of you that don't know me that well I don't ever take pain killers so I was in alot of pain. I'm in much less pain now though after resting and spending too much money at the canteen at camp, and the pain killers are starting to wear off. So pray that my finger and wrist heal quickly that'd be super good! On another note a giant frog was run over on Paul and Becky's driveway. It just gets grosser and grosser everytime I see it. Just thought you'd like to be immersed a little bit in what we're experiancing. Oh and don't forget to comment on the other post. So busy that even a tech freak like moi hasn't had time to blog it's Dane again for those of you who didn't get that. So I'll start with explaining part of the title. Have you ever see a frog the size of a dinner plate? Well Matthew (the Abel's son) hunted a bunch and said they could break your finger they were so strong. anyways we saw them too. On a dinner plate. Cooked in the highest quality grease you can find and served hot and fresh. Everyone enjoyed it. Actaully I recall Erin saying that it is her new favorite meat. Clayton and I were kind of weirded out by it but everyone had some. It was a special treat served after the kids were all in bed. After the apparently, I don't actually know because I was still sleeping but, the councillers seranaded everyone. I think Erin was the only one who was awake for it and thats because she was journalling and was still up. Anyhow so yesterday we went and climbed a mountain wihyt a bunch of the kids. it was quiet the veiw and we all sweated lots. You could see Campo Largo and Curitiba from the top. It was pretty sweet. Except for when we packed fifty some people into a tiny little bus ment to seat like a dozen. About the size of one of CLBI's vans with fifty people. That was very warm and I hit my head standing. It was fun to drive blindly around corners just honking your horn and nearly hitting people. I thought we were gonna hit a dog and we just about clipped its tail. Anyhows after that the camp has a water slide it's pretty wicked and Matthew launched me and I got some air on it and splashed all the kids at the bottom. They loved it. Apparently you go faster the more weight you have so we made a Canadian Bobsled team. That's right five Canadians flying down the slide as fast as we can and hitting the bottom. We definatly lowered the water level of the pool. Lynne has a footprint in her chest now too. It was kind of dangerous so we only did it once more after that :D So Kenny is peeling like a manderin orange. I'm not too bad and the burn is almost gone and I don't think Clayton is fairing that poorly either. So last night was the last night so all the kids and councillers had a giant pillow fight! I have picture of Erin and Lynne getting beat down by thirty some odd girls. Their dorm attaches to the Caffeteria so they could fight in there. I left there and the boys were all out side. And of course no pillow fight is complete without beating up the gringos or gringas so on the way to my room I got hit a couple times. So Clayton and I came back and showed them how to pillow fight Canadian style. It's the same but it ends with me being hit way less. After at about 2 am I am awoken to hear councillers giggles. They were feeding the kids pudding while they slept to see how long it took them to wake up. Some of those kids could sleep through an earthquake. They even opened the eyes of a couple. Kenny was the only other one of us to wake up for it though. In my room they actaully picked up a kids mattress and carried him to the cafe. His mom would sometimes work there early though so they moved him back into the room but just left him on the floor. It was an eventful night. So I went back to sleep hoping they wouldn't do the same to me. Anyhow camp is nearly done and I must say goodbye to the kids. So bye for now

Lynne's Post

Firstly Clayton's foot is purple with sunburn. (oh and he asks that we refrain from teasing him about you know what...lol ya right)
Okay on to the real news. So Brazil is amazing as I thought it would be at the beginning of the semester. We could feel the humidity as we flew over the amazon and my hair became an instant ball of craziness as soon as we stepped off the plane. (it kind of feels like we're swimming all the time, there's so much water in the air).
So far we've made a lot of friends with the kids and I am starting to understand the language a little. It's been a little overwhelming being immersed but as long as we take time by ourselves every once and awhile its okay.
My favorite part of the trip so far would be my new friend Amanda. She's a 7 year old girl who thinks its just hilarious that I don't understand her. She likes to drag me around and is absolutely crazy on all levels. (if my family reads this, she's like Andrea when she was little).

Anyways I'm going to go down to the vbs now. Talk to you all later!

Oh Mr. Sun

Alright so as predicted yesterday was very busy. We began by painting again and painted till about supper when most of the campers had arrived. Kenny had the brilliant idea of only applying sunscreen to where it was burned to even it out. yes you guessed it he got even more burned as did Clayton and of course not to be the odd man out I (Dane) burned my arms and a very odd looking spot on my back. Oh the sun. Luckly it would sprinkle rain down every once and a while just to keep us cool. After supper we had Chapel and met Paul's sister who is staying with them while her kids attend camp. It's been a lot of fun playing with the kids. They split all of us up into diffrent rooms which adds to the fun and some to the stress, but it's good. Today we took the kids on a hike while the rest of the councilors had a meeting. They have some beautiful nature here. Us boys worked on the shed for the morning after that while the girls played with the kids. I of course was the most intelligent of the day and am now sunburned rather badly. Long story short there is a lot of sun here making it very hot and burning all of us. Even in places where we use sunscreen. Today was also the hottest We think it's been here so far. you could feel yourself burning if you were in the sun. Supper was also dress up rediculous day. So many of the kids had underwear on their heads or something inside out. The winner I believe had a motorcycle helmet on. They were quite comical to watch. There's the summary for the past 2 days. Continue to pray that Clayton's passport will arrive safely, as it is not yet here. Ciao from all of us down south.

January 7th

So today we have an answer to prayer to begin with. We emailed the hotel about Clayton's passport and they found it and are sending it, so now we just await for it to arrive. Today was an exciting day. Councillers for camp began arriving today so it is beginning to get pretty busy around here. So today we were put to work repainting a shed. after spending a bunch of time trying to scrap the paint off with various tools we decided to use the powersprayer to make things go faster. Aswell I (Dane again) stained the concrete on what Paul hopes to turn into a barn. Kenny and Clayton got sunburned rather badly today. Camp starts tomorrow and to go with our safari theme a poisonous snake was found right outside the neighbors door. It's now being kept inside a jar in the cafeteria. Continue to pray for us as camp starts tomorrow and will be filled with adventure.

The Flight's and all that

Alright so to begin our epic journey we all board the plane ontime. Kenny and I (Dane) did not get a chance to grab anything to eat and were rather hungry at the time. We then proceeded to spend at least an hour sitting in the plane. On the ground... We were having mechanical difficulties which set us back which would have ment we missed our toronto connection if it had not eben delayed until 3 something. This allowed Kenny and I and everyone else to grab a bite to eat before heading out to New York. Oh New York. We arrived under the impression that we would have a free/ prepaid ride to the hotel. Alas twas not to be. After paying to get to the Airport where we were told the hotel would be we had to catch a shuttle to the actual hotel which was free but took sometime. After finally arriving at the hotel we had trouble getting our rooms. Such trouble included us calling Rob just long enough to tell him we couldn't get our rooms before running out of change. Poor Rob. Anyways we tried a second time and this time we got our room. Rob called us at the hotel and told us we had two rooms. After ordering pizza we retired for the night. The next day we left New York and I forget where but at some point our flight was delayed causing us to miss our connecting flight from sao paulo to Curitiba. TAM air was really good about it though and paid for food a hotel room each and a taxi each. We were all very impressed. Due to the fact Clayton, Kenny and I had all slept most of the day away on the plane we were unable to sleep. Bad plan on our part so by the time we got to Curitiba we were all three exhausted. Of course what would our trip bit without some trouble at the end of the journey? We could not for the life of us figure out how to use the pay phone to get the Abel's to come pick us up. We finally emailed them and they picked us up at 11. So against all odds we are here alive and well and loving it down here. Oh and we're finally well rested and starting to adjust to the time diffrence. The food so far has been amazing. Please continue to pray for us as camp starts on Tuesday and that should be fun but tiering, so continue to keep us in your prayers. God Bless all.
